Traffic surveys

Roadside observation, written up. Speed is the service we are set up to deliver first. Counts, pedestrians and parking can be quoted on the same basis.

KerbSight carries out observational traffic surveys for communities, schools, local authorities, developers and businesses. The work is the same kind of thing in each case: a trained surveyor, a defined place and period, and a report that explains what was recorded.

Speed surveys

Vehicle speed surveys are the core service. They measure how fast vehicles are travelling and set out the pattern, including the 85th percentile and compliance with the posted limit. They do not enforce the limit.

Traffic counts

A traffic count answers a different question: how many vehicles, which way, and of what type. A road can be busy and slow, or quiet and fast. Counting is how you tell volume from speed.

Pedestrian surveys

A pedestrian survey measures people on foot: along a footway, crossing a road, or gathering at a particular time of day. Schools and village centres are the usual reasons.

Parking and access

A parking or access survey watches a defined area and records what vehicles do there: whether they stop, for how long, and whether an access is being obstructed. It is observation, not the issuing of parking tickets. If that is the question you need answered, say so on the quote form.

What stays the same

Whichever survey you commission, the report states where the surveyor was, when the observations were made, and how they were analysed. The aim is a document a non-specialist can read. The approach is described under how surveys are carried out.
